Job Fair

I went to the Job Fair on Friday 23, April 25, 2010 and I decided to get more information on the booths that had the SeaWorld booth and the Jamba Juice booth. I first went to the SeaWorld booth because I thought that having a job at this kind of place would be fun and exciting because new people would go and visit, especially tourist. That was something that I liked about SeaWorld. I liked Jamba Juice for a different reason, I thought that this place would be busier and people would come more often, maybe the same people. I also went to other booths but these two were the ones that attracted my attention.
When I asked the lady what kind of people they were looking for she answered very clear and fast. She said that they needed responsible, hard-working, friendly, socially successful and intelligent minds. I thought that this was a place for me but once she said that you had to be socially active I took it back. I do not think talking or socializing is one of my strongest attributes. I am more of a conservative when it comes down to my personality. When I asked her about the job skills, she said that it depended on what job you applied for and which one you got. Because there is a big difference between a cashier and an unload and load personnel.
Once I was done with SeaWorld I moved on to Jamba Juice for my interview with the person that was helping everyone. She told me basically the same things that the other lady had told me, I believe the reasons are the same. Both places deal with a lot of people, they include from helping them out and serving them to getting things done and making the costumers happy. I also think I would fit this job and for the same reason I do not think I would be as successful. The social part kills me, but the rest I am very good at. I think this place would be better for me though because it not only provides good things for the costumers but it has a happy atmosphere.
I believe the same job skills are needed to work here. You do not have to learn much, she said that a lot of the things you have to know they teach you. For example, making a smoothie, they teach you there that is why they are there and that is why they hire new people. Being a cashier isn’t very hard either, you would just have to know how to operate the machine, which I do not think is very hard, and you have to know how to count money, which is basically middle school math. At SeaWorld the same thing is considered; it depends where you are stationed. If you are unloading things out of truck then you basically need to know how to take orders but if you are working a game booth then you have to learn another thing, different from that of the unload personnel.

Do you believe 18 year-olds should serve 2 years of compulsory service, such as the military or the Peace Corps?

I do not believe that believe 18 year-olds should serve 2 years of compulsory service, such as the military or the Peace Corps because everyone has their own life to live and the should not serve if they did not volunteer. I strongly disagree with the compulsary service because this will make you do something even if you do not want to do it, more like forcing someone to do something that they do not want to do. I would like ot compare this to slavery because the slaves were doing things they did not like but it was required to do by the government. But the comparison is not as severe because that dealt with human and social values that cannot be taken away from a person even if they die. Volunteer is when somebody who works without being paid; people are not going to want to work for something and not get paid, unless they are great people that have nothing else to do or that really care about others. People like this usually already have everything in their lifes, like money and everything that it brings with it. The military is something that you chose to do not something that is compulsory. Being enrolled in the military is like a 2nd option or plan b after high school, because some people already have their lifes set on something else, like college, building a family and/or becoming something more than just a high school graduate, college graduate, Peace Corp volunteer or a military service person.

Voting

I think you should be a voter because the benefits that come from it are really positive. Imagine how many people like me are trying to make their friends vote, not for a certain person but just for anyone they want to vote for. This voting right was given to you when this country was made, I do not think you should waste this opportunity. People died and suffered for this right. Not only will you be taking advantage of this opportunity but you will put your voice out in public and make this country a better place for yourself, by voting for that person. If you vote for someone that you like, and agree with their ideas, there will be a bigger chance that you will get those benefits that you voted for. But if you do not vote for anyone, then you will not know what you will get, any type of benefits. That is another reason why you should vote. You should also vote because it is something that you will have to do later in life, and you should do it now at a young age to get some practice. If you do not vote then you will never have a chance to ‘complain’ about what the government does, ever! You will not have a chance to get your idea through to the government. The government considers very much what the people think, the voting comes in for a very important part of the election process.

Do you think healthcare is a right or a privilege?

Having health care access is a right, but that does not necessarily include getting it for free. The access of health care in the United States is very high, cost is the only problem. I know this because if we have unlimited money, we can print however much money we wanted. There would be no health care "crisis" at all. Health care insurance is the right to have a happy healthy right. The problem with this whole debate is the focus on the cost. If insurance companies can get the costs lowered and then more people will be able to afford it. Regulating insurance providers do not lower the costs. It will merely transfer the costs somewhere but we will still be paying for it in some way. Insurance costs stem from the actual care costs and frequency of claims.
It is a right because people deserve to be insured and have health care that they can afford. It is just like Freedom of the press. In the Constitution where the Preamble is stated, it says that people have to be taken care of and have a well-fare for everyone in the nation states. This means that people have the right to have a healthy life; people should be insured just like in other countries. Other countries do not require people to pay for it, they have made it a national law that everyone needs and has a health insurance. I do not have the right to have the government or the taxpayers pay for it. If I pay for it, I have the right to have it.

Problem Solver

The Expected School-Wide Learning Results are very crucial and important to the success at our school. We need to meet these results to have met the schools expectations, and one of the Expected School-wide Learning Results is being a Problem Solver. A problem Solver will posses confidence and skills that apply to appropriate problem-solving situations and critical thinking of real life scenarios. I have done this by solving problems in every single of my classes, like solving problems in my math class that require me to use my knowledge and decide what to do. I also used it in my GecoTech class that required me to use my skills to solve whether to use a screw or a nail to put something down. This demostrates masrty of all basic skills in all content areas. As well as to analyze, intepret, and evaluate significants concepts. It also made me connect ideas across the curriculum to accomplish meaningful tasks. I have applied all these concepts to make me a better person and make the best and better decisions. I have made smart and fast decisions in class, while presenting and at soccer games. In school I have made the decisions on what to say and the right time and at the right place. When presenting I say the appropriate things. At soccer games you have less time to decide, the schools decision making made me think and process things faster than I have before.

Effective Communicator

My career at San Diego High School – School of Science and Technology has been great throughout. Everything I have done has been related to an ESLR (Expected School wide Learning Results). One of the few that I have been learning and executing has been the Effective Communicator. This Expected School wide Learning Result has made me a very good communicator, presenter, converse with other people. One way I was an effective communicator was by making lessons to teach in a classroom of 9th graders. We had to communicate with them and make it go through their minds to work. We use very good speaking skills and communicating skills. We talked to them in a way where they understood everything we said, we showed them pictures and powerpoints, also videos that helped communicate our ideas.
I was also an effective communicator when I had to present my idea about energy at the Energy Summit in my GecoTech class. We were competing against 8 other groups that represented different countries, and my group came to be in the first place. We won because we knew how to communicate with the audience and make them understand our ideas and persuade them to believe us. Another way I was an effective communicator was by leading my teammates by talking to them and telling them what to do. This way I can bring the best out of my soccer team and make our team run even more smoothly so that we succeed even more.

Technology Producer

In the four years that I have been at San Diego High School – School of Science & Technology, I have been a technology producer at least every day of school that I’ve been here. We have been a school that emphasizes on the science and technology side of everything. We work on labs that involve the microscopes and heart sensors. These two things are technology that we use to help us learn and see things that we can’t see with our bare eye. The heart sensor helps us tell whether a person is in good heart condition or not.
Another thing I have used to be a technology producer is using the computers is using our school. We have created word documents, PowerPoint presentations, video clips, sound clips, slideshows, websites and other computer related documents. One example is a class called TSS (Technical Support Services) which is a class designed for students that like fixing the computers internally and make them perform better. Another way that I’ve been a technology producer is by creating and building technology myself, I created solar panels that created electricity using the sun. In this project I built solar arrays that collected the sun’s heat and then made it into energy that could be used to power different appliances.

Collaborative Worker

As a collaborative worker you need to be able to contribute and make it easier for a group to work with each other. I have been a collaborative worker by working with small groups and big groups, one example is with small groups at school. I had to work together to get assignments done and properly done. In my science class we had to write a protocol, which included the steps we had to take to do the experiment properly, the material we needed, the questions we had to answer and a good hypothesis that we had to prove right, if not then we had to experiment again and try another hypothesis. An example in my classroom is when I was teaching ninth-graders about different issues reveolving teens. Some of these included unprotected sex, which brought AID’s unplanned pregancies and other bad things. I was a collaborative worker by working together with my team and executing all the right things to say and use the proper presentations to teach them and prevent all the bad things that can happen to them. Another example of a collaborative worker is when I play with my high school team, I worked together to win games, execute plays that are designed to score goals, bring the team together as a team and make the team a better team by working together. These two groups or teams are examples that include me as a collaborative worker and making me work with everyone around me to have a more peaceful and easier job.

Responsible Learner

I have been a Responsible Learner by getting all of my assignments done and turned in time. Another example is when I have the chance to study on my own, I do it. I study and practice for any test or exams that I will be having for a particular class. It shows that I am responsible about my learning. I was also a responsible learner when I received certificates and awards from classes that I have succeeded very much. One example is when I got an award for having a close to perfect grade in my Computer Applications class. It showed that I was very responsible with my learning by getting everything done, done very well, and getting it in before the due date. If I have failed a test or have done bad in class I make myself that responsiblel learner by staying after school and going to tutoring to get my grade up.
Another example for this ESLR is that I can balance both my extra-curricular activities and my classroom work. I was responsible by getting a great Grade Point Average and a very successful soccer career, until this point of my life. These two things have given me a good perspectives on how being responsible is a good thing, it brings you some of the best things in the opportunities you get.Being a responsible learner has been a thing that I have learned to inhibit to make myslef a better and more successful individual. It has brought me the opportunities I have received and I have taken advantage of them in every way possible.

Emerging Civic Individual

As an emerging adult, I believe that I need to succeed in every way. One way I can succeed is by doing the best for me. I have to make smart decisions about everything that can make a good, healthy, safe, producing community. I will mature into an adult and make good things for my community. Once I become the best I can be; I believe that I will only bring the best and wise things to this society. I will bring the best and wise things in the way that I will be educated and mature about many things in this world. One example is that I am going to the University of San Francisco and make myself a better more humane, wise, caring individual.

Senior Exhibition Question

1) What is the topic or issue you are interested in?
The topic I would like to research on is the Green Energy area. The question I would like to answer is the following: Should we use ‘Green Energy’? I would like to research and learn everything and anything that has to do with this area.
2) Why are you interested in your topic or issue?
I am interested because I would like to become a Mechanical Engineer myself and help the environment become a better place to live in. I am also interested because I have taken some classes on how to make this world a better and ‘Greener’ place to live in. One example is by building solar arrays, they receive solar rays from the sun and then converted into energy or heat. Another reason why I am interested is because I would like to have a cleaner place to live in because without a clean world we are never going to expand our generations further. We are going to end up destroying the only world we have. My interests are to clean, protect and ‘Green-ize’ this world to become a better place not only for us but for every living creature.
3) What do you know about this topic or issue already?
I know that there is a lot of Global Warning in our Earth because we are not protecting out planet. I know that ‘Green Energy’ will help not only our environments but our health as well. ‘Green Energy’ will consume little to no carbon emits by using the wind turbine, solar cells, water mills, bio-fuel and other non-exhaustible energy sources. Using and creating ‘Green Energy’ will not only make our world better but it will also create jobs for those who are unemployed as well. Using this type of energy will make our world better, including our economic, industrial, health, technological fields and natural worlds.
4) What do you hope to learn about this issue or topic?
I hope to learn many more things about this topic that I am going to research. I would like to learn more about how advanced and powerful countries are in the industrial side of this. I believe that the more advanced and powerful countries have more of a sense towards the use of ‘Green Energy’ because they have the money and labor to work on it. I would also like to learn the economic status of many countries and predict or infer the country’s opinion on using ‘Green Energy’. I am also researching this topic because I would like to know if there are other ways to create ‘Green Energy’ apart from the ones I already know.
5) What are you opinions on this issue or topic?
My opinions on this topic that I would like to research are very positive. I would like to gain the best and good of this research. The issue on whether or not to use ‘Green Energy’ is very clear to me already, without doing any research, countries and world wide organizations should start proposing more usage and revolutions on ‘Green Energy’. I believe this because there are countries that do not have the economic stability to do this, bit there are others that do but instead they are misusing their economic power on some other things that are not of great importance. My opinion is that everyone should start proposing and helping in any way possible to make ‘Green Energy’ the only energy allowed in this world, for the better of us, our future generations and Mother Nature itself.
6) How are these opinions biased? What causes these biases?
These opinions are somewhat biased because they come from my mind and my mind has learned both ways, biased and unbiased. My opinions originate from both sides of the story, I learn both and make my own suggestions or opinions. These are the reasons that cause these biases: my personal judgment, information I have been taught, things I have read or seen, and logical reasoning.
